Delhi Crime actress Shefali Shah says she got typecast early

Shefali Shah is currently enjoying the best period of her life, professionally. If you ask why then the 48-year-old actress’ web series titled Delhi Crime recently won big at the International Emmy Awards 2020.
Shefali who made her acting debut with Aamir Khan and Urmila Matondkar-starrer Rangeela appeared in a number of critical and commercial hit films such as Satya, Gandhi, My Father, Dil Dhadakne Do, Mohabbatein, etc. And her road to success was certainly not an easy one. The actress got typecast very early in her career, as shared by Shefali in her latest interview.
You will be surprised to know that Shefali was just 20-years-old when she played the role of a middle-aged mother in the popular show Hasratein. Shefali revealed there was a time when she kept saying no to roles because she was offered to play the role of a mother, too soon in her life.
“I was typecast in a mother’s role very early in life. I didn’t even reach a certain age. I was 20. I did a show where I played the mother of a 15-year-old, I was 20 years old when I played a mom of 45. And then, when I was around 28-30, I played mother to Akshay Kumar. So I got typecast very early, if I didn’t even have to reach a certain age point,” she told to ETimes.
“According to screen time, I’m probably 133 years or something,” the actress added.
Shefali played the lead role of DCP Vartika Chaturvedi in Delhi Crime. The series was based on the 2012 horrific Delhi gang-rape case. Directed by Richie Mehta, Delhi Crime won the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series. She earned herself global recognition after being in the industry for nearly 25 years!
